WebCare Series #4: Content types, explained
Blogs, events, portfolios — here's what a content type is, and why it shapes your plan.
"Content types" sounds technical. It isn't. It's the answer to a plain question: how many different kinds of thing does your website hold?
What counts as a content type?
A content type is a category of information that shares the same layout and details. For example:
Blog posts — a title, a date, an image and an article
Events — a name, a date, a time, a location and a booking link
Portfolio or case studies — a project name, images, and the story behind it
Team members, services or products — each with their own set of details
Your main pages — home, about, contact — don't count. Content types are the collections that grow over time.
Why it matters for your plan
Each content type is its own collection, with its own layout, its own settings and its own things to keep an eye on. A site with one blog is a different job from one with a blog, an events listing and a portfolio all working together.
So when we look at what your WebCare plan needs to cover, we're looking at two things: how many pages your site has, and how many different content types it holds. A focused site with one content type sits comfortably in our Essential plan. Larger sites, with several content types, get a plan shaped around exactly what they hold.
